Bulk Storage Racks

SMP Construction builds, buys, and sells both new and used bulk storage racks of all designs and sizes nationwide.

Conventional Bulk Storage Racking
A large number of warehouses need to categorize and store palletized materials by sku numbers. These same warehouses need to control their stock by direct, quick access to each individual sku. For these operations, SMP Construction recommends using conventional bulk storage racks. These racks can be designed as either single-depth systems for more spacious environments, or as double-depth systems for tight spaces where pallets must be placed in front of each other to conserve space in tight quarters.

Bulk Live Storage Racks
Other warehousing operations often require more rapid removal of pallets from racks. These typically are companies dealing with perishable items like food products and prescription drugs. Live storage racks are the best storage systems for these outfits. They use gravity inclined flow racks that allow pallets to slide from one side of the deck to the other at a controlled rate. This adds up to a significant reduction of wasted time and a more streamlined operation at the end of the day.
Drive-in Bulk Storage Racks
Some warehouses store each type of article on a separate pallet, and have enormous inventories consisting of homogenous product groupings. These products may remain in storage for up to six months. With such stockpiles, efficiently consolidating space is paramount. Drive-in bulk storage racks can convert up to 85% of previously wasted space into new, efficiently managed inventory space. One way these storage systems do this is by getting rid of unnecessary aisles and providing either a single front entrance or a front and rear entrance for forklifts to drive into for loading and unloading as needed.

Push-back Bulk Storage Racking Systems
When thing are already out of control in a warehouse and floor space is being cannibalized for storage, it is time to take drastic measures with a push-back bulk storage rack. These systems are built with trolleys that move along slightly inclined rolling rails. When a pallet is removed from the end of the rack, all the pallets behind it slide into place.

Mobile Bulk Storage Racks
When it is necessary to provide direct individual access to each pallet, but also reduce the number of aisles between storage areas, a mobile bulk storage rack is the best way to consolidate space. It turns on a motorized base that moves the pallet into position for unloading, and allows for reloading in the same manner. These systems can be manually operated or remotely operated by computers.

Clad-Rack Bulk Storage Warehouse Racking Systems
What if you need a bulk storage rack the size of your entire warehouse? Some very large storage facilities actually do. These racking mega-giants are called Clad-Rack systems and are typically erected on the warehouse foundation prior to the warehouse walls and roofs being literally built around them. This effectively uses every possible square cubic foot of area in the building as storage space.

Call SMP Construction now for a quote on these or any other bulk storage racks your organization needs to consolidate space and improve shipping and receiving turnaround. Used and new custom-built systems are available nationwide. SMP Construction also purchases used pallet racks, so call us today if you have material storage systems you are looking to liquidate as inventory.

Bulk Storage Racks

We have limited space in our warehouse and need a way of tightly controlling stock by allowing forklifts to access individual pallets stored by sku. What type of bulk storage rack do you recommend for this?
A conventional bulk storage rack would be the best pallet racking system in your case. It would allow you to store a wide range of skus in an efficient, easily indexed manner. This would improve your inventory control by allowing you to know exactly where a particular pallet is on the rack, go to the section where that sku range is located, and retrieve it directly. SMP Construction can build conventional bulk storage racks of this nature either used or new, and we ban also build them either single-depth or double-depth in design. If you are dealing with very limited space, or think you may run out in the near future, go with the double deck design that will allow you to place pallets one in front of the other on both sides of the aisle.

We run a food processing distribution center and see tremendous pallet turnover during the day. What type of bulk Storage Rack system can you build us to help us maintain both organization and momentum?
We could build you either a new or used live storage racking system. It is called live because it uses gravity to move pallets within the rack at a controlled pace. A gravity-inclined flow rack allows them to slide down the system and filled the empty space when a pallet is removed. It is almost like an assembly line in precision and efficiency. If you need a time saver as well as a space saver, this is probably the best bulk storage rack to invest in. The rapid turnaround it provides is ideal for food service businesses such as yours.

We have a cold storage facility that is very narrow but has very tall ceilings. We do not need a bulk storage rack with aisles space in the middle. What do you have that will maximize the use of our vertical cube and give us quick access to large numbers of pallets stored by category?
What we need to build for you is a drive-in bulk storage rack that will eliminate all the wasted space currently occupied by too many aisles. The new system will basically have either one entrance on the front of the rack, or a front entrance and rear entrance that allow fork truck access. We can build the system as high as you like in order to convert your vertical cube space into organized storage space. Up to 85% of you existing space could potentially be transformed with one of these systems. We would need to see specifications or photos of your building, of course, to make an exact determination of this.

We have almost completely run out of space in our warehouse and are facing the possibility of a move we simply cannot afford. Can you help?
Yes. A push-back bulk storage rack can consolidate this space and make it possible to retrieve pallets from the end of the rack. This is done with trolleys that move on rolling rails angled at a slight incline. When you remove a pallet from the end, the system moves the next pallet on the rack into its place. This way, you do not have to go up and down individual aisles with a forklift (or devote floor space to creating such aisles) because you need only one central aisle for pallet access.

Do not move. Save your money, and invest only what you need in better storage.
Used pallet racks of any kind can be up to 60% less than new models depending on availability and location.

We need to reduce the number of aisles and still maintain access to individual pallets. What kind of bulk storage rack do you recommend for this?
We build mobile pallet racks that operate on motorized bases. These racks can be manually controlled or computer-controlled remotely, and move the pallets into place for quick, direct access.

What are the largest bulk pallet racks you make?
Clad-rack bulk storage systems are the largest type of pallet racks in existence. They can be as large as warehouses themselves, and in fact, often are erected prior to the warehouse being built, only to later become part of its very frame. The only limits on their size are building codes and the vertical reach of cranes and forklifts. They are highly customizable and can be built in either conventional or drive through design. If you are getting ready to break ground on a new warehouse, this might be a way to maximize it for storage solutions literally from the ground up.
